Toms 13th Birthday Cake

Tom turned 13 back in may and for his birthday I told him that I'd make him a surprise birthday cake. Like most 12+ boys Xbox is everything so what would be more appropriate than a controller.

The cake is chocolate sandwiched with vanilla buttercream, I used a simple controller outline (from google images) when cutting the shapes of each of the sponges. Covered it in black fondant icing and made the buttons (both using fondant from Sainsbury's). I also had printed from Eat My Face mini Xbox game cases and backed them onto Lincoln green icing by Renshaw and stuck them around the sides of the controller.

He was so happy when I showed it to him and I was very pleased with how it turned out :)
